Retail giants GAME have made a huge statement by purchasing Multiplay.
Multiplay, the brains behind the Insomnia events have been bought out by the huge retailer GAME. The deal rumoured to be around £20,000,000 has really made a statement to the eSports community and with Insomnia 54 just around the corner, we are expecting some huge changes. Over 60,000 people attended Multiplay’s Insomnia 53 event in Coventry making it the UK’s largest gaming event. But Multiplay aren’t just known for their hugely successful events. They also host millions of servers in games such as Minecraft and Counter Strike.
It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were hit with the news that GAME stores around the United Kingdom would be closing due to the financial problems that the franchise faced. So it seems strange for the retail powerhouse to buy out Multiplay instead of purely investing into it’s future.
“By acquiring Multiplay we are benefitting from nearly two decades of experience, during which time Multiplay has built an exceptional reputation and leading position in its markets. Multiplay has a great management team and a fantastic culture – their passion and enthusiasm for games is infectious. Like Multiplay, our communities are at the heart of our business, and together we will be able to move even faster to grow and develop our services for both gamers and suppliers in the UK, Spain and around the world.”
Do you think that eSports in Europe will benefit from the huge buyout of Multiplay?
